Greta Thunberg

Image
Does the truly deserve all the attention she is  getting? The environment is decaying because of climate change, and action needs to be taken. However, I don’t like the hysteria that’s being promoted in the name of climate change activism. Which brings us to the topic of the 16-year-old Greta Thunberg. Greta is a prime example of political tokenism. Allow me to explain what I mean by that. The dictionary usually defines tokenism as something like ‘putting minorities in big public roles to give off the illusion of diversity rather than diversity itself’. My definition is a little different in this specific case. Greta Thunberg isn’t a political token in the way that she’s being used to give the illusion of diversity. Rather, it’s more like Greta Thunberg is a puppet for tree-huggers. She’s not saying anything a competent adult couldn’t say, but everything she says is intended to evoke a more emotional reaction because it’s coming from a child. This 16-year-old girl ...

What are the major environmental problems facing India?

Image
India’s rapid economic growth might have impressed many experts but it does come at a cost which more often than not is being burnt by the environment. In the wake of limited natural resources, negative externalities like environmental degradation, climate change and carbon emissions have largely been put on the back burner. Some of Major Environmental Problems India is facing are as follows: Air pollution:  Air pollution levels in the country have been rising to scary levels for the past few decades. As per a World Health Organisation survey released in June 2018, New Delhi and Kolkata are two of the most polluted cities in the country. Water Pollution:  As per the statistics released by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the number of polluted rivers in the country has risen from 121 to 275 in the last five years, with Maharashtra faring the worst among states in keeping its rivers clean. Noise Pollution:  Sound pollution has been consistently rising ...

Small Steps on our Part to help Environmennt

Plant trees / Restore forests Feed sparrows and small birds/animals in summer Help the flora and fauna to survive. I sincerely know how much a room near a tree can help to beat the heat…than another room with no trees near and needs cooler or Air conditioner. 20 years from now… Rhino, Hippo, sparrow…”most animals and birds can only be seen in zoos or in encyclopedia” Trees are half gone… Men and women tweeting about this…..and whatever business we do…there comes a time we need food, water and shade……not just money!

Jadav Payeng:A Man who deserves recognition

Image
He is  Jadav Payeng.  He lives in Majuli, Assam (India). When he was a teenager, he came across the fact that the place he lives in is exposed to soil erosion, then took a pledge to save the environment and started planting a tree every day. He planted so many trees in the last 40 years that he has created a jungle of 550 hectares singlehandedly! Thanks to his efforts, Majuli is no longer at the risk of soil erosion. Bengal tigers, elephants, rhinos have returned to their comfortable abode in Majuli. Had he not been discovered by a journalist, he would still have continued to work for the betterment of the world silently. She is  Greta Thunberg , who lives in the developed nation of Sweden. She got ample media attention because she said, “How dare you”! She said that “You have stolen my dreams and childhood”. Well, I thought her dream was to see a balanced world, then who stole her dream? I mean can’t she work towards getting a cleaner world? Why did she no...
